Chicago police stopped a knife attack late Monday, fatally shooting a suspect he was stabbing another man in the street.
The incident happened shortly after 11 p.m. while two officers were on patrol on the city's west side, WLS-TV reports. That's when officers spotted a man allegedly trying to stab another person.
Police intervened and ordered the suspect to drop the knife. The suspect did not comply as the officers tried to de-escalate the situation.
Police opened fire, and the suspect and the victim were both struck by gunfire. Officers began performing life-saving measures on both individuals, and the suspect was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Both officers also were taken to the hospital for observation.
The shooting is under investigation.
